THE KAZAKH COMMUNITY – MONGOLIA

Kazakh - Sustainable Eagle Population

Traditional Kazakh Falconry

The age-old tradition of falconry is more than a natural hunting technique. Falconry is a UNESCO declared living cultural heritage.

Unfortunately, this important tradition is massively fading away. New technical hunting techniques are taking over. More than that, the hunting animals are in danger because of an imbalanced ecosystem triggered by tourism.

The Kazakh is one of the last communities practicing traditional falconry in Mongolia. But here as well, the amazingly beautiful Golden Eagle they hunt with is dying because of the mentioned reasons and therefore also is the traditions of falconry. Nomadic Expeditions is our partner NGO in Mongolia, who run a beautiful project to help the Kazakh continuing their falconry tradition and to protect the Golden Eagle population by educating sustainable use.

Come along on our journey and join this beautiful project.

Project

The reciprocity projects support local communities in their quest to preserve and pass on their heritage and knowledge to future generations. The projects always originate from community members themselves.

To ensure a successful outcome, all reciprocity projects are done in close collaboration with the community and the local NGO partner. We always work with NGOs with resonating missions and visions which we encounter on our photography journeys.
