SUSTAINABLE USE OF GOLDEN EAGLES IN TRADITIONAL KAZAKH FALCONRY

Since a few years, a concrete road gives access from the Q’eros village to the city. This road stimulates mobility to the city with the opportunity for schooling and business. The other hand, people are slowly moving to the city, leaving their culture and ancient wisdom behind.

The Q’eros people are known as the wisdom keepers of the Andes. Considered to be the last Inkan community of Peru, the Q’eros strive to preserve their indigenous ethnic identity. Q’eros live a hardworking life at one with nature.

The creation and building of a museum is in progress, together with a centre for the preservation of Q’eros culture – in Q’eros. The Q’eros men and women will help curate, archive and exhibit photographs, videos, books, oral histories, musical recordings and instruments, clothing, textiles, botanicals, artefacts and more unique to their community. The centre is expected to be a platform for research and educational programming.

The reciprocity projects support local communities in taking action and passing on their cultural and natural heritage and knowledge to future generations. It is of utmost importance that the projects are done in collaboration with the communities and in many cases run by the people themselves.
